Wear clothes that make you feel comfortable; jeans are perfect as denim works brilliantly against the white background.
In terms of tops, the days of everyone wearing white t-shirts are over; it's all about colour now. For example, if you love blue or pink, pick various shades and textures of that colour. Before your family photo-shoot, lay everyone's outfit on a bed as this will show you what works and what doesn't. Don't be afraid to accessorise, a dickie bow looks great. For girls, a flower in their hair is a lovely touch. Do you need to consider your home decor? You will be hanging these photos in your house; therefore, it's worth considering if bolder brighter colours or more neutral colours complement your room.
You can also mix and match colours. Blue and yellow look great together. Red and blue are really vibrant and work exceptionally well against the white background. If you prefer something a little more subtle, choose purple and white or pink and grey. The combinations are endless. Remember to avoid distracting patterns, huge stripes and large logos as these can overpower the photo and take attention away from the face. Top tip: if you want the children to be the focal point of the image, then it's perfectly fine for the parents to wear darker colours such as black or navy and put the kids in bolder brighter primary colours.
The main aim of your photoshoot is to capture genuine expressions and your family's personality. Playing stylist is an added extra bit of fun. However, if you prefer everyone to throw on their favourite top regardless of whether they coordinate or not, that's perfectly fine too.
